Mozzarella cheese sticks are a classic snack that’s loved for their crispy coating and melty, stretchy cheese inside. These golden bites are perfect for parties, movie nights, or anytime you’re craving a cheesy treat. This recipe makes about 12 cheese sticks and serves 4.
Ingredients
-
12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese), unwrapped
-
1 cup all-purpose flour
-
2 eggs, beaten
-
1½ cups breadcrumbs (use panko for extra crunch)
-
1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning
-
½ teaspoon garlic powder
-
Salt and black pepper, to taste
-
Oil for deep frying
-
Marinara sauce, for dipping
Instructions
1. Prep the Coating
-
In one bowl, place the flour.
-
In a second bowl, add the beaten eggs.
-
In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
2. Coat the Cheese
-
Dip each mozzarella stick first in flour, then in egg, then in breadcrumbs.
-
For best results, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps once more for a thicker, crispier layer.
-
Place the coated sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour — this helps prevent the cheese from leaking during frying.
3. Fry the Sticks
-
Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C).
-
Fry 3–4 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
-
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serving
Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dip.
Storing
Freeze uncooked coated sticks for up to 1 month. Fry straight from frozen when ready to eat.
