Mozzarella Cheese Sticks Recipe

Mozzarella cheese sticks are a classic snack that’s loved for their crispy coating and melty, stretchy cheese inside. These golden bites are perfect for parties, movie nights, or anytime you’re craving a cheesy treat. This recipe makes about 12 cheese sticks and serves 4.

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella sticks (string cheese), unwrapped

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1½ cups breadcrumbs (use panko for extra crunch)

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • Oil for deep frying

  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

1. Prep the Coating

  • In one bowl, place the flour.

  • In a second bowl, add the beaten eggs.

  • In a third bowl, combine breadcrumbs with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

2. Coat the Cheese

  • Dip each mozzarella stick first in flour, then in egg, then in breadcrumbs.

  • For best results, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps once more for a thicker, crispier layer.

  • Place the coated sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 1 hour — this helps prevent the cheese from leaking during frying.

3. Fry the Sticks

  • Heat oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat (about 350°F or 175°C).

  • Fry 3–4 sticks at a time for 1–2 minutes until golden brown. Don’t overcrowd the pan.

  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Serving

Serve hot with marinara sauce or your favorite dip.

Storing

Freeze uncooked coated sticks for up to 1 month. Fry straight from frozen when ready to eat.

Crispy on the outside, gooey inside — Mozzarella Cheese Sticks are a quick, cheesy favorite everyone loves.
