Lassi Recipe

Lassi is a traditional South Asian drink made from yogurt, water or milk, and a touch of spice or sweetness. It’s refreshing, cooling, and deeply satisfying—perfect for hot days or as a soothing finish to a spicy meal. There are several versions of lassi, from sweet and fruity to salty and spiced. This recipe focuses on the classic sweet lassi, with a simple and creamy texture that highlights the natural flavor of yogurt. This serves 2.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain yogurt (chilled)

  • ½ cup cold water or milk (adjust for thickness)

  • 2 tablespoons sugar (more or less to taste)

  • 4–5 ice cubes

  • ¼ teaspoon cardamom powder (optional)

  • Crushed pistachios or almonds for garnish (optional)

Instructions

1. Blend the Base

In a blender, add yogurt, cold water or milk, sugar, and ice cubes. Blend for 30–45 seconds until frothy and smooth. If you like it thicker, use less water or milk. If you want it thinner, add a bit more liquid.

2. Add Flavor (Optional)

For extra flavor, sprinkle in some cardamom powder before blending. You can also add a few drops of rose water or a pinch of saffron for a more aromatic twist.

3. Taste and Adjust

Taste the lassi and adjust sugar or water as needed. Blend again if you make any changes.

4. Serve

Pour into tall glasses, garnish with a few crushed pistachios or almonds if desired, and serve immediately while cold and frothy.

Sweet lassi is simple, smooth, and very easy to make. You can also try variations like mango lassi (by blending in mango pulp), salty lassi (with salt, cumin, and mint), or even strawberry or rose-flavored versions.
