One-Pan Baked Dumplings Recipe

These One-Pan Baked Dumplings are a comforting, golden delight that combine the flavors of pan-fried and steamed dumplings—all baked together for a crispy yet tender texture. No steamer or frying mess needed, just one pan and your favorite filling wrapped in soft dumpling wrappers.

Cooking Time: 40 minutes

Servings: 4

Ingredients:

1 pack round dumpling wrappers (about 30)

1 tablespoon sesame oil (plus more for brushing)

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

1 egg, lightly beaten (for sealing)

For the Filling:

½ pound ground chicken or pork (or crumbled tofu for vegetarian)

1 cup finely shredded cabbage

½ cup finely chopped green onions

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon minced ginger

2 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon chili paste (optional)

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Baking Sauce:

¾ cup chicken or vegetable broth

1 tablespoon soy sauce

1 teaspoon sesame oil

½ teaspoon sugar

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven:

Heat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly brush a large oven-safe skillet or baking dish with oil.

  2. Make the Filling:

In a bowl, combine the ground meat (or tofu), cabbage, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chili paste, salt, and pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.

  3. Assemble the Dumplings:

Place a small spoonful of filling in the center of each dumpling wrapper. Brush the edges with beaten egg, fold over, and press firmly to seal. You can pleat the edges if you like.

  4. Arrange in the Pan:

Arrange the dumplings close together in the prepared pan, seam side up. Brush lightly with sesame oil for color.

  5. Add the Sauce:

In a small bowl, mix the broth, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar. Pour gently around the dumplings—avoid pouring directly over the tops so they stay crisp.

  6. Bake:

Cover the pan with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10–15 minutes until the tops are golden and the sauce is mostly absorbed.

  7. Serve:

Let rest for 5 minutes, then sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped scallions. Serve warm with soy sauce or chili oil for dipping.

Tips:

  • You can prepare the dumplings ahead and refrigerate them before baking.

  • For an extra crisp bottom, heat the pan on the stove for 2 minutes before pouring in the baking sauce.

  • Try mixing in chopped shrimp for a richer flavor.

  • Use store-bought gyoza wrappers for a thinner, crispier texture.
