Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup molasses

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup raisins (or chopped dates)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven:

    Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

  2. Mix Dry Ingredients:

    In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.

  3. Cream Butter and Sugar:

    In a large bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the molasses, egg, and vanilla. Beat until well combined.
