Cholado Recipe

Cholado is a famous Colombian dessert drink that combines crushed ice, tropical fruits, sweet syrup, and condensed milk into one colorful, chilled cup. Popular in cities like Cali, this fruity creation is perfect for summer. It’s both refreshing and satisfying, with juicy bites of fruit and creamy sweetness in every spoonful or sip. This recipe serves 2.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups crushed ice

  • 1 cup chopped mango

  • 1 cup chopped pineapple

  • 1 cup chopped papaya

  • 1/2 cup chopped strawberries

  • 1 banana, sliced

  • 1/2 cup passion fruit pulp (or any fruit syrup)

  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

  • 1/2 cup fruit-flavored syrup (strawberry or passion fruit works best)

  • 1/2 cup shredded coconut (optional)

  • 1/2 cup whipped cream (optional topping)

  • Wafers or cookies (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the fruit

Chop all the fruits into small bite-sized pieces and set aside in the fridge to chill while preparing the rest.

Crush the ice

You can use a blender or ice crusher to get a slushy texture. Place crushed ice in the base of each serving glass.

Assemble the cholado

On top of the ice, layer the chopped mango, pineapple, papaya, strawberries, and banana. Spoon the passion fruit pulp or drizzle fruit syrup over the fruit.

Add sweetness

Pour a generous drizzle of condensed milk over the top. Add more syrup if desired.

Top and serve

Sprinkle some shredded coconut, a dollop of whipped cream, and add wafers or cookies on the side for a classic touch.

Cholado is best eaten immediately with both a spoon and straw. Every bite is fruity, creamy, and icy — just what you need to beat the heat.
