Batido Recipe

Batido is a popular Latin American drink, especially in countries like Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Colombia. It’s a chilled, frothy milkshake made with fresh fruit, milk, and ice, often sweetened with a bit of sugar or condensed milk. Batidos are known for their smooth texture, vibrant colors, and tropical flavors. This recipe makes 2 servings.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh fruit (mango, banana, papaya, guava, or a mix)

  • 1 cup cold milk (or evaporated milk for richness)

  • 1 tablespoon sugar or sweetened condensed milk (adjust to taste)

  • ½ cup ice cubes

  • Pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavor)

Instructions

1. Choose Your Fruit

Select ripe, soft fruits like mango, banana, or papaya. Peel and chop into small chunks. If using frozen fruit, you can skip some or all of the ice.

2. Blend Until Smooth

In a blender, combine the fruit, cold milk, sugar, and ice. Blend on high for 30–45 seconds until smooth and frothy. If you like it thinner, add a bit more milk.

3. Taste and Adjust

Taste your batido. If it needs more sweetness, add a little more sugar or condensed milk and blend again.

4. Serve Cold

Pour into glasses and serve immediately while cold and fresh. You can garnish with a slice of fruit or a sprinkle of cinnamon for a little extra touch.

Batidos are flexible—you can try different fruits or even blend two or three together. They’re perfect for breakfast, a mid-day snack, or a light dessert.
