Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 onion, chopped

2 garlic cloves, minced

500g ground beef

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 can (400g) diced tomatoes

1 can (400g) red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

1 teaspoon ground cumin

1 teaspoon chili powder (or more to taste)

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and black pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 cup beef broth or water

Optional toppings: shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped green onions, fresh cilantro

How to Make Chili Con Carne

Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook for 5–6 minutes until soft and slightly golden.

Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.

Stir in the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and no longer pink.

Add tomato paste and stir for a minute to deepen the flavor.

Pour in the diced tomatoes, red kidney beans, and beef broth.

Add cumin, chili powder, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Stir everything well.

Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer uncovered for 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. The chili should thicken and develop rich flavor.

Taste and adjust the spices if needed.
